ABOUT

​

Ivana Larrosa is a visual artist, performer and educator from Spain living in New York City. She creates video installations in response to spatial environments, often merging elements of fantasy, humor, and daily life into performances and photo-based objects. Larrosa is interested in conceptual strategies that have to do with the body as an object of study and a medium to approach memory, trauma, architecture and ecology.

 

Her Love for the Arts developed while working as an art writer for the Spanish newspaper ‘Diari de Tarragona’ in 1997, culture writer of Barrios de Iruña Magazine in 1998 and as founder and creator of the photo magazine ‘Zero Zone’ in 2006. 

 

Most recently, her film Beach Birds: The Shaman, The Guardian, The Journey has been selected as part of the on-demand performance and video art platform, PerformVu/ Lucid

Her past work has been shown at art venues and museums including Anthology Film Archives, International Center of Photography, The Exponential, Queens Museum, The Center for Fine Art Photography, Espacio Aglutinador of Havana, Plana Space in São Paulo, Project Space Kleiner Salon in Berlin, Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Soler Blasco Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum, and Galeria Sicart, among others. Larrosa's work is at the permanent collection of foundations and art institutions such as Bassat Private Collection and Spanish National Museum of Sculpture.

 

Larrosa’s work has been published at The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, National Geographic, El Pais, BBC, and many others.

Ivana Larrosa has received several grants such as Lluís Carulla Foundation Individual Artist Grant, City Artist Corps Grant of New York and Museum of Tortosa Artist in Residency, and numerous awards, including Ramon Aloy International Photographic Award and Camera Club of New York Baxter St, Annual Juried Competition.

In New York, she has curated shows for Save Art Space and Plaxall Gallery. She is a performer collaborator with Generator: Pestilence by Allied Productions at La MaMa Theater and the collective The Commons Choir.

​

She has been a dedicated NEW INC Mentor at the New Museum of Contemporary Art from 2020 to 2023 (Y7, Y8, & Y9), and also a panelist of the Brooklyn Arts Fund Interdisciplinary Panel of Brooklyn Arts Council '2022, Queens Arts Fund of Queens Council on the Arts '2020, 21 & 22, BRIO Visual Art panel of Bronx Council on the Arts '20, as well as a mentor of the Youthworks performance program at Brooklyn Arts Exchange '2020 & 21.

Ivana holds a BA in Film and Media Studies from University of Navarra (Spain) and a Master of Fine Arts at Bard College-International Center of Photography (New York, 2016), where she was awarded with the ICP Director’s Scholarship and taught video installation and performance.
